Wednesday morning ride to the butterfly farm with a brief stop close to leger lakes.

We were eight and it felt like a party! Cold yes but light breeze and cloudy but bright. A good day for cycling.

Michelle Greco, Christina Cooper, Karen Marshall, Kevin Thomas, Robin Heyward, Dave Bowden, Mick Devine and me, we were there and ready for off!

Officially the plan was to go to Leger Lakes so we set off in the opposite direction and wandered round the village before heading for Oldcotes, Langold and Carlton before turning onto Owday lane. We made good progress.

In fact we made very good progress so we stopped at the end of the road and agreed on a more lengthy route involving Anston (N&S). Naturally we would have passed the butterfly farm but light hearted banter out paid to that and we went in.

We sat outside and chatted as we ate and drank before hitting the road again. We frequent these roads but in the other direction so we were not lost we just didn’t easily recognise where we were! Nothing new there!

But the route did take us through North and South Anston, almost to Dinnington, on to Laughton Common and up the hill to Laughton En Le Morthen. We went in via Leger lakes. We even stopped to chat at the cafe gate to give Michelle time to consider a second breakfast but no it was too soon.

We went on though Firbeck and on again to Oldcotes. We turned left passed Manor Farm. Michelle and Karen went on towards Blyth, we went on to Styrrup giving us time to inspect the roadworks at the Spittal. Dave cheated the lights and we watched him heading home via Rossington. The rest of us went back to the cricket club. Miraculously there was no rain. A good ride!
