Numbers were up! We were: Robin Heyward, Kevin Thomas, Karen Marshall, Tricia Krill, Cristina Cooper, Mike Devine, Michelle Greco and me. The weather looked good, a bit cool but rain unlikely.
We set off via the Buttercross and Apy Hill Lane towards Braithwell and then on to Micklebring. Wisely, I think, we took the back lane to iron out the hills and then wandered through the industrial estate to the roundabout just before the M18 junction.
Robin, who was in front at the time was obviously confused at the sight of so much heavy traffic that he took the wrong turn (deliberately?) to give himself time to work out where he was. So I set off up the cycle path past the garage with them following and turned left back to the route.
We went left through Carr and on to Slade Hooton beyond which interesting discussions took place about steep hills and our direction. Common sense ignored we went straight up Hooton Lane, straggling as we went. There was a rumour that someone walked a while but I can’t confirm that!
We carried on along to Laughton Common and then left up the hill to North Anston before the welcome but short downhill ride to the café. We found a table and on on ordering food etc told the waitress we were next to the parrot. The parrot with a very loud squeak! Drinks and food came and disappeared and we were ready for off again.
One loo between 8 makes for a bit of a delay but we did get away in the end. And with a photo, although Michelle didn’t do a selfie so is missing.
The route home took us along to Woodsetts and Gildingwells and down the hill through Letwell before stopping at the junction of Lamb Lane to say goodbye to Christina and then as we turned left up Thornbury Hill Lane to say goodbye to Michelle who we assumed was going for her second breakfast to Manor Farm!
We arrived back at the cricket club and were chatting when Michelle reappeared. No second breakfast she just wanted a bit of variety! Kevin and Mike set off and the rest of us followed suit in our separate directions.
