Midweek ride to South Wheatley

Just a brief report to thank Dave, Rob, Michelle, Linda, Karen and Trisha who joined me on Wednesday’s ride. After a few messages the day before about the scheduled club ride to Old Moor the consensus was to change to an easier route, and Leys Cafe in South Wheatley was chosen.

We had an interesting route in the morning via Oldcotes to Blyth and found the A634 road to Barnby Moor was closed due to resurfacing work. A quick decision was made to detour via Torworth to join the Great North Road (A638) and follow it to re-join our original route onto Station Road leading to Sutton.

On reaching the level crossing we had to wait a very long time, or so it seemed, as 8 high speed trains thundered past us! After that we had no further problems into Retford and Little Gringley. The ascent up Welham Hill was tackled without too many complaints and we eventually made it to Leys Cafe at about 11.15 am after cycling 23.5 miles.

Unfortunately the service was rather slow and we spent some time chatting amongst ourselves as our orders came out in dribs and dab’s. 3 of the party namely Rob, Karen and Michelle left the cafe early due to their afternoon commitments and 4 of us left the cafe at about 12.20 pm to have a speedy 14 mile ride back to Tickhill via Clayworth, Serlby and Harworth.

Another good fun day with excellent company had by all in the saddle!
