I arrived at Tickhill CC at about 8 50 am and there were Blue cyclists everywhere!
In fact 10 of us turned up to welcome Martin back into the fold and also probably because it was a rare warm summer's day for a change! Cyclists: Martin, Dave, Kevin, Christina, Denise, Michelle, Linda, Karen, Trisha and myself.
After much meeting and greeting we set off on our ride at about 9.10 am. The original route was via Harworth, but because of the ongoing road works at Spittal Hill crossroads it was decided to reroute to Styrrup Lane and onwards to Oldcotes. The pace was reasonably steady as we headed into Blyth and on towards Barnby Moor, Old London Road and Green Mile Lane.
At this point it was decided to form two groups, one fast and another travelling at a more relaxed pace admiring the wonderful countryside led by Martin. The fast group sped through the countryside with no time to admire the scenery, but we found it all very exhilarating. I took a slight detour off road for about 1/2 mile through Apleyhead Wood which slowed us down, and we caught the other group up as we cycled down Limetree Avenue to Carburton. Welcome morning refreshments at the Old School Tearoom after covering 21.5 miles.
A very pleasant time had by all sitting outside in warm sunshine chatting away, and it took some prompting to get the group back into action! It was decided once again that the more relaxed group would do there own thing and shorten their route by 4.5 miles. Meanwhile the other group continued on the original route of 18 miles back to Tickhill via Worksop, Shireoaks, Woodsetts, Letwell, Firbeck and Thornbury Hill Lane.
A great day had by all on a perfect summer's day.
