Despite the miserly, damp, and unseasonably cold weather, five of us braved the conditions for the 40-mile road ride. Jon, Denise, Diane, Jordan, Graham, and I made up the group.
We stuck to the planned route, passing through Tickhill, Finningley, Hatfield, and Stainforth, before reaching Moss. On the way back, we went through Armthorpe, Old Cantley, and Rossington. An indoor table for six had been reserved in the café for 11 a.m., and we all arrived punctually at 10:50 a.m., without any mechanical issues or significant delays.
Martin Crapper drove over to Moss to join us for the lunch stop. He mentioned how much he misses being out on his bike, and we certainly miss having him ride with us. He’s hoping to be back on two wheels very soon. Although the coffee, cake, and discussions about bike computers and Apple Watches were enjoyable, they probably didn’t quite compensate for the lack of cycling. It was amusing to note how different Martin looked in regular clothes! He kindly took a group photo for us (see below).
Overall, it was a very enjoyable Sunday morning. Graham left us at the Hatfield Lane roundabout to head home, and Diane departed at Warning Tongue Lane, which was close to her place. The remaining three of us then chased back to the cricket club.
