It was the weekend of Robins trip to the Dales so I was surprised to find we were five on Sunday: Kevin Thomas, Dave Bowden, Del Marx, Graham Varga and me. We headed up Apy Lane and along to the roundabouts at Old Edlington then down to Conisborough. After a short wait at the lights we were away towards Denaby and turbines off to the station.
One motorist who was too far away to hit me, too far away to be inconvenienced, decided to give me a blast on his horn. I was unclipped and parked waiting for the others when this happened. Somehow he must have felt aggrieved!
We went over the railway bridge and up onto the tpt. It’s difficult to describe the route. There were trees, more trees and tree roots but no wind. All went well until we were through Harrington where we seemed to have lost Dave and Kevin. We stopped and after a delay I went back only to find them happy and catching up. Dave though had a front mudguard in his back pocket.
At the cafe we found a table - they were all free! And before long we were on our way home. After stopping at the repair shop (see photo) for Kevin to make use of the track pump we followed the same route back but kept straight on at Denaby went over the viaduct and into Edlington. Graham left us here and the rest of us had an uneventful return to Tickhill.
Not to repeat the route on Wednesday we opted for a 100% road route to Old Moor. We went off up Apy Hill to Braithwell then Micklebring before turning right towards Hooton Roberts. Robin had a chain off so we stopped to watch and offer helpful and useless advice. A few minutes delay was all it took.
Although you don’t see much of them we bypassed Adwick, Bolton and Wath and eventually arrived at the café. It was sunny so we sat outside on the balcony. Setting off back we almost made it back to the road, but Robin did his thing with the chain so we waited while the bike went tits up and we helped with the same advice/useful hints as before.
We took the cycle paths back so it was short ride slow for crossings at roundabouts then on again and again and again before turning left taking the side roads to Mexborough passing the hospital and the temporary traffic lights causing chaos. Lights not us!
We carried on down the main road turning off along Pastures Road and along to Cadeby where we paused for another photo. Then down to Sprotbrough and over the falls bridges and up to Warmsworth. At this point we were back on the Sunday home leg and made it back without incident. A good day out (twice).
