In Previous years we've had to contend with some poor weather but this year we were blessed with bright blue skies and no wind as 29 riders signed on for our 2021 Open Hill Climb.
The course was lined with enthusiastic spectators ringing cowbells and banging saucepans creating a fantastic atmosphere to encourage the riders as they made their way up Bib Lane in perfect conditions.
Tickhill Velo member Duncan Mackenzie was the first rider leading the way for 4 other TVC riders spread through the field. The overall event winner was Greg Booker, of Matlock CC in a time of 1:07.7. The fastest lady was Emilie Verroken, of Team Lifting Gear Products / Cycles finishing in 1:32.9.
Other results worth mentioning, Darrell Clarke, Ilkeston CC, took the Male Vet prize with a category course record time of 1:13.7. Kieran Smith, also of Team Lifting Gear Products / Cycles finished third overall with a new course record time of 1:10.3 for the Espoir category. The quickest Tickhill Velo rider was Dan Brewster finishing 11th with a time of 1:20.2 throwing the gauntlet down to other club members for next year.
Sadly, once again there were no refreshments or prize giving ceremony after the event but Martin Bagshaw, Club Chairman and Event Organiser, did promise free tea and cake next year claiming “I’m sure the Treasurer will be happy with that”
We got some positive feedback from entrants who all enjoyed the event which went really well largely thanks to: the Tickhill Velo members who volunteered to marshal and run the event HQ, Christine and Phil Minto who timed the event and Don Valley Cycles who were the key sponsors of both our CTT open events.
Next year’s event application has already been submitted so watch this space for further information once the date has been confirmed.
